     Explanation of Abbreviations and Codes

     SPECID = Individual Burial Number
         First number is excavation locale
             1 = BC, 1974 excavation
             2 = BCES, 1975 excavation

         followed by two spaces and then the burial identification number.
            Example: 1 14 is BC Burial 14

     AGE
         ADOL = Adolescent (15-20 years)
         YG ADULT = Young Adult (20-35 years)
         MID AGE = Middle-aged Adult (35-50 years)
         OLD = Old Adult (50+ years)
         ADULT = Adult (20-50+ years)

     SEX = Sex of individual, ?female coded as FEMALE, ?male coded as MALE

     SITE = Site of excavation

     YEAREXAM = Year burial was examined

     INSTCODE = Institute where burial was examined
         UHM = University of Hawaii at Manoa

     The scoring system for the osteoarthritis is as follows:

         0 = none
         1 = slight
         2 = moderate
         3 = marked

     Abbreviations used in the field names of this database include:

     SUP = Superior surface
     INF = Inferior surface
     R = Right
     L = Left
     CEN or CENT = Vertebral centrum
     FAC or FA =Vertebral facet
     PR = Porosity

     For cervical vertebra 1 the variables are as follows:

     SUPCENT1 = Dens facet cervical 1
     SUPRFAC1 = Superior right facet, cervical 1
     INFRFAC1 = Inferior right facet, cervical 1
     SUPLFAC1 = Superior left facet, cervical 1
     INFLFAC1 = Inferior left facet, cervical 1

     For cervical vertebra 2 the filed names are as follows:

     C2CENTPR = Centrum porosity
     DENS = Dens
     INFCENT2 = Inferior centrum osteophytosis
     SUPRFAC2 =  Superior right facet, cervical 2
     INFRFAC2 = Inferior right facet, cervical 2
     SUPLFAC2  = Superior left facet, cervical 2
     INFLFAC2 = Inferior left facet, cervical 2

     For cervical vertebrae 3-7 the field names are as follows:

     The thoracic vertebrae are scored in descending order with the following codes. Note, in some cases for the 10th, 11th, and 12th 
thoracic vertebrae Roman numerals are used instead of Arabic numbers. E.g., X = 10th thoracic vertebra, XI = 11th thoracic 
vertebra, and XX = designates the 12th thoracic vertebra.
